Tails From Ornithologic Notions |
|
The birds of Penarth, South Wales, recorded in local parks, gardens and streets, accompanied by passing observers, planes, cars, scaffolders and bottle banks. Field recordings by DCO: September and October 2007. Selected, edited, repitched and mixed: November and December 2007. Essentially a vérité re-presentation of real-time recordings, overlapped and juxtaposed for a little additional narrative flavouring, and perhaps a sprinkling of non-diegetic inserts |

Once again David, you've provided my favourite track of the project. Quite why you aren't rich and famous yet is beyond me ;) |

Italian Gulls |
|
Originally I had planned to feature audio of a variety of birds captured early in the morning at Zaca Lake, California. However, I used my miniDV camera to get the sounds and unfortunately I couldn't get rid of the slightly high-pitched hum of the camera itself! I tried all kinds of noise reduction and EQ tweaking but to no avail. So I went to the freesounds project (http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/) and scored some samples of sea gulls taken in Italy, which I remixed and concatenated for my piece. Some of the warblings sounded like a human infant, which intrigued me |

Live 7 / Cubase 4. Starting with various field recordings by Dominique Laloux (www.soundsnatural.be), I performed various transformations on samples of various sizes and re-assembled them into a fantasy soundscape. In this newly imagined context, the amiably chaotic choir of voices singing at and over one another momentarily respond to some mysterious influence that gives a subtly transpiring sense of drama to the setting |

She Came Back Twice |
|
Marlène Dietrich came back to Germany twice; once after world war two, the second time as a bird in Wuppertal, chatting with Orson Welles who reincarnated as a tune played by an icecream vendor. Recorded with a dictaphone in the garden of the grlfrn. |
